Official: FC Bayern Munich sign Olme from Brighton & Hove Albion

Bayern Munich Frauen went into the summer transfer window having already secured the signing of Lena Oberdorf from Wolfsburg for a record-breaking fee of four hundred thousand Euros. Unfortunately, however, Oberdorf sustained a knee injury on duty for Germany during the Paris Olympics and will likely miss a solid chunk of the upcoming season.

While Oberdorf is an incredible player and not having her is a loss, the club has ensured that missing her won’t lead to depth issues by signing 26-year-old midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The tweet reads: Welcome to the #FCBayern family, Julia! FC Bayern signs Julia Zigiotti Olme from Brighton & Hove Albion. The midfielder signs a contract until 2026.

Whether a depth piece signed in Oberdorf’s expected absence or part of Bayern’s plans prior to Oberdorf’s injury, FC Bayern Frauen technical director Francisco De Sá Fardilha is a strong believer in the Swedish

International’s ability, stating via Bayern’s website: Julia is a player who impresses with her flexibility, defensive strength and her great quality on the ball. In recent years she has played in one of the strongest leagues in the world and has already made 32 appearances for the Swedish national team. She is an extremely ambitious player and we are convinced that she is ready for the next step in her career. We look forward to working with her.

Zigiotti Olme also had a thing or two to say about the move, stating: Signing with FC Bayern is a dream come true for me. The club has been one of the biggest and most historic clubs in the world for decades. Many players have told me that FC Bayern is like a big family. I want to help the team in the future to continue writing its success story, to win titles and to get as far as possible in the Champions League The player continued, saying: My goal is to support the team with my strengths, which lie above all in defensive work. I always give 100 percent on the pitch and work every day to get better. I’m really looking forward to being part of the FC Bayern family now.

Zigiotti Olme seems an excellent depth piece if not a starting caliber player. According to FBREF the midfield destroyer completes an impressive 2.76 tackles, 1.72 interceptions, and 2.18 blocks per 90 minutes played. Hopefully, the Swede’s defensive prowess will help the team to its third straight Bundesliga title.
