INTERVIEW: Mark Robins on Sheffield Wednesday win, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Liam Kitching red card

Winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto was complimented by Mark Robins after he scored twice to lead the Sky Blues to a three-point victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Tatsu sealed the victory for City and gave them back-to-back Championship victories with goals just before halftime.

Robins discussed Sakamoto’s faith in him and his plans to challenge Liam Kitching’s red card when the final whistle blows.

Tatsu’s initial objective

There’s no denying that the first part of the performance was excellent. I believed we were in complete control.

“Despite their having a player off the pitch at one point, we scored a really excellent goal.

After having a pretty good stretch of possession, we break down that left side, and Haji finds Tatsu a wonderful ball. Tatsu’s movement was superb, and his finish was even better.

“There were some fouls and things the referee seemed to play on, but overall, that was a one-nil up without them really touching us for that amount of time.”

Tatsu’s second goal in the second half…

They started a little bit higher and came in a little more aggressive and pushed in the second half, and we just didn’t have that quality often enough. This was mostly due to starting positions, but judgments made with the ball also undoubtedly had a part in it.

“We moved forward, we left, and because we were dangerous, they made adjustments to attempt to keep up the press’s fervor.

“We made some adjustments because, despite the fact that it seemed like we were finding a rhythm, things began to slow down and settle for us. After that, Tatsu brilliantly scores his second goal.

It’s a fantastic piece of play mixed with excellent movement. Even if we haven’t scored two goals, his performance was still excellent overall. He receives the ball in the box, performs what he does, and brilliantly strikes the far corner. This shows that his confidence is quite high, which is fantastic.

The red card that Liam Kitching received following the game

“I’m enraged. It would be a disgrace if Liam Kitching was absent for three games. The referee has been informed that Kitch has raised his hands, but he hasn’t actually seen it, so it needs to be looked at.

“Kitch has every right to maintain his position. He can’t do anything because he is in his space.

The boy approaches, gives him a two-handed shove to the face, puts his head in Kitch’s, and Kitch just backs away.

“Thereafter, he comes together and does the same thing again. I have no idea what’s going on or why he left like way, but Kitch is completely innocent.

He hasn’t held up his hands. It needs to be looked into because he hasn’t done anything and is unable to move aside.

Do not tell me that’s a three-game ban, please. Without a doubt, not a prayer, and not from our player. I’m very upset about it.
