No trophies but still rich: Bayern Munich’s Michael Diederich assures fans of “very positive” annual financial results

Predictably, when COVID struck and football games had to be abandoned for everybody’s safety, Bayern Munich experienced a sharp drop in revenue. It took years for that drop in revenue to be righted but now it has, with last year’s revenue being the highest club had ever generated. Just over three months before the next annual general meeting, where this year’s revenue will be announced, CFO Michael Diedrich spoke to Tz, about the club’s revenue, which remains “very positive” despite going a year without winning any titles after finally dropping the club’s streak of winning the Bundesliga.

But how come the finances remain so good? Diedrich had this to say: “I don’t want to say anything about the annual results today – but I can already reveal that things will look very positive, which I will be able to report at the annual general meeting in November. A season without a title is not nice for us, but we have worked hard in many areas to balance that out financially. We also had a really good year in the merchandising area. The name Harry Kane, for example, sold an incredible number of jerseys.”

Adidas, Bayern’s long time commercial partner, will be very happy about the last bit of news. Whether Bayern will be able to announce an increase in revenue on last year remains to be seen but, regardless, it has been another stellar financial year for Bayern Munich.
