New signing travels but key players miss out: Newcastle United senior squad for Japan trip

Newcastle United are jetting off to Japan for a week-long tour of Tokyo as part of their preparations for the new Premier League season.

Eddie Howe’s side have opened up their pre-season campaign with back-to-back wins against Germain third side SpVgg Unterhaching and Championship outfit Hull City. Next up are J-League clubs Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F. Marinos.

The Magpies have operated with somewhat depleted team during the opening fortnight of pre-season with a number of senior players missing, either because of fitness or being handed extra time off following their international commitments.

Eddie Howe’s men take on Urawa Red Diamonds at the Saitama Stadium on Wednesday, July 31. They then face J.League runners-up Yokohama F. Marinos on Saturday, August 3.
