Vincent Kompany pleased with overall feeling at training camp after Bayern Munich’s 14-1 friendly win over FC Rottach-Egern

It might not have been 27-0 like it was this time last summer, but Bayern Munich got its first preseason friendly under their belts in customary fashion, beating FC Rottach-Egern 14-1 in Tegernsee in Vincent Kompany’s first unofficial match in charge of Bayern.

The squad is still without all of the international players that made it out of the group stages at the European Championships earlier this summer, but it was Kompany’s first chance to see his squad in action, albeit against a much lesser opponent that applies their craft in the ninth tier of German football. On a assisté à son premier entraînement au Bayern : Kompany, top départ - La Libre

A lot of the young guns were at the heart of the action for Bayern as Mathys Tel’s hat-trick and braces from both Mudaser Sadat and Adin Ličina lead Bayern’s scoring against Rottach-Egern with the other goals coming from Noussair Mazraoui, Raphaël Guerreiro, Arijon Ibrahimović, new singing Nestroy Irankunda, Sacha Boey, Jonathan Asp Jensen, and Noel Aseko Nkili. Of all the players that saw action, Sven Ulreich, Eric Dier, Kim Min-jae, Bryan Zaragoza, new signing Hiroki Ito, Josip Stanišić, Leon Goretzka, Guerreiro, Mazraoui, Tel, and Boey were the only senior players in the squad for Kompany.

Kompany might have been just a bit concerned when it took Bayern slightly over 20 minutes to break the deadlock in Tegernsee, but once it was broken, the proverbial floodgates opened, Surely, though, he would not have been too pleased with the goal Rottach-Egern scored in the 29th minute, even if there was a slight suggestion of a handball from Tobias Schlichtner.

After the match, Kompany said that the feeling around training camp in Tegernsee has been positive thus far and that he liked what he saw in the friendly, even if the scoreline was not as high as it has been in recent summer’s past. For the Belgian manager, it is more about the tradition of the occasion and getting the minutes in the legs.

“I’m happy to be here with the fans. I know how important it is for Bayern to be here in Tegernsee out of tradition and culture. We did everything we wanted in the past three days to prepare well and see young players. That’s always good to see. The boys fought hard for every ball today and tried to be positive in the game. You can’t do more today. It’s not just about this game and the result, but mainly about getting a feeling again. We’re happy to have played this game today and now it’s about the next one,” Kompany told Bayern’s media team after the 14-1 over Rottach-Egern

Next up for Bayern is a friendly against FC Duren this weekend in Jülich, German before they jet out for their brief Audi Summer tour in South Korea, where they will play friendlies against Tottenham Hotspur. After that, Kompany will oversee his first competitive match in charge of Bayern at SSV Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
