Bayern Munich settled in with Mathys Tel as Harry Kane’s back-up

The club is inclined to trust Mathys Tel with the role, which seems like a good thing since playing time at wing could be very hard to come by. With Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Michael Olise, Bryan Zaragoza, Arijon Ibrahimović, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala, and maybe even Alphonso Davies as potential options to play as wingers or wide attackers, Tel’s ability to be Harry Kane’s understudy could help his cause for more playing time:

Bayern bosses are not looking for a striker to replace Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, contrary to media reports. Vincent Kompany and his staff are impressed by Tel’s pre-season performances so far. The Frenchman impressed with his physicality, technique and pace. His finishing is also really good. Tel is determined to hit the ground running in the coming season.

Tel showed flashes of brilliance last season operating as a wing and striker and even said that he prefers to play as a left-wing. With so many options out-wide, though, Tel will likely have to take whatever playing time he can get — at whatever position offers some minutes.
