Newcastle United announce glamour pre-season friendly against AC Milan

NEWCASTLE UNITED WOMEN will host Italian side AC Milan Women as part of next month’s Sela Weekender at St. James’ Park.

Becky Langley’s side have celebrated back-to-back league promotions and will prepare for their upcoming Barclays Women’s Championship campaign by taking on European opposition when Milan head to Tyneside on Saturday, August 10 (1pm).

The clash against AC Milan will be the first-ever women’s Sela Cup game, which kicks off a day of action as Eddie Howe’s men then face French side Stade Brestois, with the Magpies looking to retain the trophy following last summer’s victory.

Newcastle Women head coach, Becky Langley, said: “The excitement ahead of this season continues to build after an amazing couple of years celebrating promotions. This team has been on an incredible journey and special parts of this have been playing at St. James’ Park in front of thousands of passionate fans.

“To be able to face European opposition like AC Milan Women, at St. James’ Park, is great as it will give us a different test and help with our preparations ahead of this coming season, which we can’t wait to start.”

The Sela Weekender gets underway at St James’ on Friday, August 9 (7.30pm) when the men’s side face La Liga club Girona.

The following day will see Newcastle Women kick off against AC Milan at 1pm before the men return for their Sela Cup tie against Stade Brestois (4pm).

Day tickets for Friday and Saturday are on general sale now and priced at £20 for adults and £10 for concessions for each day, while access to premium bars is available at £25 and £15 for each respective matchday
