Leeds United family name continues at Elland Road as youngster pens longterm deal

The 17-year-old follows in the footsteps of dad Richard, who signed from Preston in 2005, and older brother Charlie who came through the youth ranks at Thorp Arch and made 14 senior appearances before recently securing a ÂŁ3.8m move to Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse.

The youngest of the Leeds Cresswells and another defender, Alfie has agreed a new three-year deal at Elland Road after making his Under 21s breakthrough last season. A club statement said: “Leeds United are pleased to announce Alfie Cresswell has signed a professional contract with the club. The defender has agreed a three-year deal at Elland Road, committing his future until 2027. Cresswell starred as a centre-half for Rob Etherington’s Under-18s side in the league last season and played an instrumental part as the club reached the FA Youth Cup final. Towards the end of the campaign, the 17-year-old made his Under-21s debut, helping Scott Gardner’s side to wins over Derby County and Newcastle United in the Premier League 2. Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Alfie on signing a professional contract with the club and we look forward
to seeing his continued development at Thorp Arch.”
Leeds have secured a raft of young players to contracts in the last few weeks, including 18-year-old Charlie Crew who penned a four-year deal just weeks on from his Welsh national team senior debut. Crew has been training with Daniel Farke’s first team during pre-season and is expected to be involved in the senior squad in the upcoming season.
