Coventry City in the Opta Power Rankings

It is said that the Opta Power Rankings are a “global ranking system.” Using information from both on and off the field activities, it ranks more than 13,000 domestic football teams globally.

With a score of 100%, Manchester City is shockingly at the top. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are right behind them.

Coventry City is ranked 210th globally. With a 79% score, they rank eighth for Opta when compared to their Championship rivals, even though they are ranked 15th in the actual Championship table.

They are somewhat below Middlesbrough and Sunderland and sit above teams like Hull City and Watford.

If Coventry City hopes to return to the top six for a second consecutive season, they still have some catching up to do.

Coventry City advanced to the play-off final at Wembley after finishing fifth in the previous year.

But regrettably, Luton Town won the penalty shootout and they missed out on a Premier League spot.

Although the Sky Blues haven’t had the best start to the season, Mark Robins would have liked to see them advance even farther this year.

The season ahead

Coventry City may currently be in the lower half of the second tier, but they are only nine points off the top six and that is a gap that they are more than capable of making up.

They’ve went unbeaten in their last three outings against two sides inside the top six and if they can continue that form heading into the festive period they may enter 2024 within touching distance.

Coventry City’s next game is a journey up to Sunderland, which is usually entertaining. They then play back-to-back home games against struggling Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday before traveling to Middlesbrough to kick off the new year.
