JUST IN: Bayern Munich closing in on £46.5m midfielder – view

Bayern Munich are closing in on a deal to sign Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha for a fee of £42m plus add-ons.

The Portuguese international midfielder has completed his medical with Bayern and there are just a few minor technical details to iron out before his move to the Allianz Arena is completed.

The 29-year-old joined Fulham for around £17million in 2022 and has been a revelation for the Cottagers since his move from Sporting Lisbon.

He recently played a key role in Portugal’s run to the quarter-finals of EURO 2024, too, and will join Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise as one of new Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany’s first signings at the club.

United don’t want to lose the 27-year-old, and turned down a bid from West Ham United for his services last summer. But with competition for places in midfield growing, McTominay is keen for first-team football.

His departure could bank United up to £40million in their transfer coffers and his departure would be banked as pure profit according to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, given he is a United academy graduate.

United have had a huge bid accepted for Lille defender Leny Yoro, and are in the market to sign Matthijs De Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee, too.

In what could be a busy summer for United, any money generated from player trading will be used to help fund that spending as the INEOS Group look to re-establish the club at the top of the Premier League.
