Erik ten Hag plotting Man United reunion with Bayern Munich star

Manchester United are considering a move to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich,

Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the Dutch defender who is on a list of potential targets for the summer transfer window.

Ten Hag worked with De Ligt during his time at Ajax with the pair coach and player between 2017 and 2019.

The Man United boss even named the central defender as his captain, making him the youngest-ever captain of Ajax at 19 years and 186 days old.

De Ligt went on to join Juventus in the summer of 2019 and spent three years in Turin before heading to Germany with Bayern Munich.

In his career, De Ligt has won league titles with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern, as well as the KNVB Cup in the Netherlands and the Coppa Italia.

It’s understood that a deal with Bayern could be realistic, even though the 24-year-old still has three years left on his deal.

This is after he was limited to just 30 appearances last term due to a knee injury.

Man United are also actively pursuing a deal to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

The Toffees value Branthwaite at £70million, with a deal for De Ligt understood to be much more affordable.

However it’s believed that United are considering moves for both men, rather than one or the other.

But deals for the two defenders will depend on outgoing transfers with Man United needing to recoup funds in order to boost their summer kitty.
