NEWCASTLE UNITED TIPPED TO MAKE £40K-A-WEEK STAR NICK POPE’S REPLACEMENT, NOT DAVID DE GEA

The Newcastle United goalkeeping debate has provided Eddie Howe with a headache he simply didn’t want.

Nick Pope was a vital and reliable player for Newcastle United, but due to a shoulder injury, it’s possible that he won’t even return to the field until much later in the season.

Who should Newcastle recruit as a result to take Nick Pope’s spot as the team’s top player?

Shaka Hislop told ESPN that he believes Martin Dubravka is the answer staring them in the face and that it shouldn’t be former Manchester United player David de Gea.

Shaka Hislop feels that Martin Dubravka has done “really well” and should be the one to take the gloves in the long run. It wouldn’t surprise him if the Toon Army fans disagreed.

The star, who used to earn £40,000 a week, demonstrated during the loss against Tottenham why he is no longer the team’s best player.

Who should replace Nick Pope?

“De Gea is available, but saying that, I like Dubravka,” said Hislop. “I think Dubravka is doing really well for Newcastle.

“That first season that he had. I didn’t know that (Player of the Year at Newcastle). But I think he did really well for Eddie Howe that first season. He kept Newcastle up.

“Pope is the better goalkeeper. I have no issues with that.

Regarding whether he wants de Gea: “I’m worried that you might not have a backup because Pope has been away for a long time.

Do you then bring De Gea in to take a bench seat? Dubravka is excellent as the starting goalie. Dubravka, in my opinion, fills that gap.

Martin Dubravka is hurt.
When Newcastle hosts the Italian powerhouse AC Milan at St. James’ Park on Wednesday, it will be one of their biggest games in a very long time.

The Magpies have to win this Champions League final because even with three points, they could still be eliminated from Europe’s top competition.

The other Group F encounter, which pits Kylian Mbappe’s PSG against already-qualified Dortmund, will be crucial.

Although Dubravka has been in goal for the past few games, it appears like Newcastle is now down to its third option due to an apparent injury to the team’s backup.
