David Moyes completely stitched up Gary O’Neil after West Ham win at Wolves and it’s hilarious

David Moyes completely stitched up Gary O’Neil after the West Ham win at Wolves and it was pretty hilarious to watch unfold.

VAR once again took centre stage in the Premier League as West Ham came from behind to beat Wolves.

West Ham were on the end of another spate of farcical officiating and VAR calls in the 4-3 defeat at Newcastle last weekend.

And it was Groundhog Day as the Hammers felt hard done by once again when a dubious penalty against Emerson Palmieri gave Wolves a half-time lead.

Then Emerson thought he had equalised when he headed home at the far post. Only for VAR to rule it out despite very minimal contact.

West Ham did get level when Emerson’s cross was clearly handled by Max Kilman and Lucas Paqueta scored the resulting penalty.

James Ward-Prowse then made it 2-1 directly from a corner.

There was drama in the 110th minute when Kilman headed home. But after a review on the pitchside VAR monitor, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil was incandescent, storming onto the pitch at full-time to confront referee Tony Harrington.

And his mood won’t be improved after he was rather hilariously stitched up by David Moyes post match.

Moyes takes the stand and makes a mockery of O’Neil’s case

“My view, David Moyes ‘ view, Lukasz Fabianski’s view is that it’s a scandalous, terrible decision, I can’t understand it at all,” O’Neil told the press post match.

“Can’t think of an explanation to be honest, one of the worst decisions I’ve ever witnessed…

“Crazy that a Premier League referee can stand in front of a screen, with slow-motion replay and still manages to get it so badly wrong. It’s a terrible, terrible decision.”

Cue Moyes’ turn to speak to the media after being teed up by O’Neil.

But the West Ham manager well and truly set O’Neil up for ‘Hello darkness my old friend’ meme treatment with his comments.

“What would you start with that for?” an agitated Moyes told the Sky Sports reporter after the game when asked about the incident.

“The view of the last one, the boy is standing in front of the goalkeeper and he gives offside.”

‘It was the right decision’ says Hammers boss
Awkward for O’Neil this.

The Hammers boss went one further when speaking to the BBC.

“I think it was probably the right decision but I can understand how Gary O’Neil would see it as a very harsh call – but I thought the penalty kick in the first half was a really harsh call for us.”

Remember the early days of Soccer AM?

This would have been a prime candidate for ‘Taxi for O’Neil’.

O’Neil’s star witness Moyes made a mockery of his case when taking the stand.

But the judge and jury that is the BBC’s fading flagship show Match of the Day decided it warranted an unprecedented apology in another farcical West Ham assessment.
