‘It’s Just Gone Supersize’ – Keith Wyness taken aback by Nottingham Forest points deduction latest

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has accused the independent commission of “cherry-picking” to find a favourable verdict for Nottingham Forest in their points deduction hearing.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Toffees’ first hearing, which saw them deducted 10 points, has been “conveniently forgotten”.

Forest were found guilty by an independent commission on Monday (18 March) of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and were subsequently handed a four-point deduction.

The Midlands club were allowed to lose £61million over three years but breached that limit by £34.5million.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were initially handed a six-point penalty but it was reduced to four due to their co-operation in the investigation.

Nottingham Forest is absolute nonsense, says Wyness

Football Insider revealed on Monday (18 March) that Forest and their owner Evangelos Marinakis is believed to be furious with the independent commission’s verdict and is planning an appeal in the coming months.

“The can of worms has just gotten bigger, it’s gone supersize.

“It seems there has been a lot of cherry-picking between the Everton appeal and Forest’s case.

“What seems to have been forgotten, very conveniently, is the first commission to rule on Everton.

“There seems to be no recognition that it even took place. All the 52-page document talks about is the Everton appeal.

“In the report, they mention that they expect all clubs to cooperate with the investigation – but they gave two points back to Forest for doing that.

“There’s a lot of cherry-picking in the Forest decision. If you put all three reports side-by-side, it’s very hard to make common sense and logic flow between all three.”
