‘Murillo and I said no’… Danilo admits he was gutted when Nottingham Forest star made big announcement

Danilo has shared what he and Murillo had been telling Nottingham Forest defender Felipe ahead of him announcing his retirement from football.

The player made the big call recently and now Danilo has been quizzed on his teammate by ESPN Brazil.

Danilo doesn’t seem overly happy that Felipe has decided to leave Forest and call time on his career. Now, we’ve taken a closer look at what he’s said about his Reds teammate.

What Danilo has said about Felipe announcing his retirement
Well, it’s now been confirmed that Felipe will be retiring once his Forest contract ends in the summer.

He’s struggled for game time at Forest this season amid a number of injury problems and he’s decided that enough is enough.

Felipe signed for Forest for just £1.8 million from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 and he helped the Reds stay in the Premier League.

Danilo confessed that he and Murillo spent a lot of time badgering him to change his mind over his pending retirement.

He told ESPN Brazil: “He used to make a few comments, but Murillo and I said no, that it was too early to retire. But now he’s said that it’s definite. Now the decision is more certain, concrete.

“He did a lot with Corinthians, Porto, Atlético de Madrid, with us here last season and now that he’s regaining his confidence after a long time out of the game.

“I hope he stays here with us for another year and retires in another season.”

Forest will have to replace Felipe

Had Felipe managed to stay in the Forest team this season, it’s hard to imagine that the team would have struggled defensively like they have at times.

Ultimately, he’s a player who has oozed class and even at 34-years-old, he’s proved a very useful addition to the squad.

Like most players, however, age has just caught up with him. Throw in a few niggling injury problems and perhaps it is the right time for him to call it quits.

Forest do have to replace Felipe though. The squad is perhaps short of leaders right now and that is something that will need addressing in the summer.

In our view, it would be extra special if Felipe could finish his career by helping Forest secure another season in the Premier League during the final 10 games.
