Baffled Barry Ferguson admits he can’t understand why the SFA are holding off to decide if Brendan Rodgers will land a Celtic dugout ban.

The Hoops are set to take on the SFA on Thursday, March 28 after the Parkhead boss was hit with a notice of complaint for his criticism of VAR official John Beaton following the controversial Scottish Premiership defeat to Hearts. The Celtic boss faces a two game ban that would leave the Irishman on the sidelines for the clash Livingston and the crucial top of the table showdown at Ibrox with Rangers on April 7.

It has led to criticism from some sections of the Celtic support over the timing of the the hearing after the charge was issued earlier this month – and Rangers hero Ferguson became a surprise cheerleader for Rodgers with the derby clash just around the corner. Asked about Rodgers press conference before the Scottish Cup quarter-final with Livingston where he fielded questions over the punishment, Ferguson told Go Radio: “He is probably not wanting to talk about it again in case he gets another game added on to it.

“It is strange why it takes so long to go up against the panel. You would think it maybe wouldn’t be this week but next week.

“I don’t get why it takes so long to get brought up and see how long he will get in terms of games. You obviously know what is coming up and the game he could miss if he gets that ban.”
