Interview with Mark Robins, “We Need Help” – Coventry City Manager Assesses Play-Off Chances

Coventry City manager Mark Robins believes his squad has played a factor in his team’s recent dip in form, which has seen them lose ground in the race for the play-offs.

The Sky Blues made the short trip west last night to take on fellow promotion-hopefuls West Bromwich Albion. It was a game which Coventry really needed to get something out of having slipped four points behind sixth-placed Hull City with last week’s defeat against Preston North End.

Despite a morale-boosting victory over Maidstone United in the FA Cup on Monday night, Robins’ side were unable to build on that success and found themselves on the losing end at The Hawthorns once again. It’s a stadium in which they have failed to record a win since 2007 and it didn’t take long for last night’s clash to follow the same route.

Micky Johnston handed the home side an early lead thanks to a stunning solo strike. The advantage was doubled in the 36th minute through Grady Diangana, although a second half penalty from Haji Wright led to a tense finish for West Brom boss Carlos Corberan.

Due to the outcome, Coventry may find themselves seven points outside of the play-off spots by this evening, when seventh-place Norwich City hosts Sunderland and Hull travels to Preston.

After the win, Robins said in a statement that they now needed to ensure that their season didn’t “fizzle out” as they got ready to host Rotherham United, the bottom team, at the CBS Arena on Tuesday night. The 54-year-old said in an interview.
