Lewis Cox shares what Albion and Coventry City fans did in Hawthorns showdown

Lewis Cox has revealed that both the West Brom and Coventry City fans were heard singing the name of Tony Mowbray during the game between the two sides on Friday (1 March).

The Express & Star journalist tweeted on Friday that the two sets of supporters sang “There’s only one Tony Mowbray” after it has been revealed that the former Baggies and Sky Blues manager is battling illness.

 

 

He said Albion boss Carlos Corberan was also seen applauding as a picture of the now Birmingham City boss appeared on the big screen inside The Hawthorns, with Cox adding that it was a “lovely touch”.

In his post, Cox said: “‘There’s only one Tony Mowbray’ rings around The Hawthorns – with applause from Carlos Corberan – in respect of the former Baggies and Sky Blues boss who is battling illness. Lovely touch.”

There is no doubt that Mowbray will have been very thankful for the way both the West Brom and Coventry fans reacted when his photo went up on the big screen.

While he currently manages their rivals at Birmingham, he was a popular figure during his time at both clubs and achieved some success.

All those associated with Albion will be wishing him luck with his recovery from illness after the footballing world has sent him messages of support over the past few weeks.

Corberan will be looking to achieve the same feat Mowbray did during his time with the Baggies by securing promotion to the Premier League this season.

The 2-1 victory over the Sky Blues has helped cement their place in the playoffs and they will be fancying their chances of reaching the top flight after their performances during this campaign.
