‘Nonsense’… Manager says he’d never have sold his ‘world-class’ player to Nottingham Forest

Nuno’s Nottingham Forest were never going to be able to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the January transfer window.

That is according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has noted how important Kelleher is for his team.

So, what has Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said about Nottingham Forest-linked Caoimhin Kelleher? Let’s take a look.

Jurgen Klopp praises Nottingham Forest-linked Caoimhin Kelleher
Well, Nottingham Forest will face Liverpool at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Caoimhin Kelleher will be in goal for Liverpool. Alisson is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Merseyside club, but the Brazil international is injured at the moment.

So, Kelleher has been playing instead and has done well so far. He was one of the best players for Liverpool against Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup, leading his teammate Virgil van Dijk to describe him as “world class”.

The Daily Mail reported on February 1 that Forest wanted to sign Kelleher in the January transfer window and offered Liverpool £15 million for the 25-year-old. The Merseyside club turned it down.

Speaking about interest in his backup goalie in the midst of the season, Klopp has stated that Liverpool would never let him go despite being pleased with Forest’s offensive line.

“For me, there was no chance of him leaving, so I was not interested in who was asking,” Klopp stated in an interview with The Telegraph regarding Kelleher.

“In a competitive market, a reasonable pricing would have been necessary to give us an opportunity to do something.

“It’s not like other goalies who move for £15 million or £20 million from A to B. That is absurd and completely unrealistic.

Nottingham Forest still keen on Caoimhin Kelleher
Nottingham Forest may have failed to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the January transfer window, but they are still keen on the Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper.

The Daily Mail reported this week that if Forest stay in the Premier League for next season, then they will try to sign Kelleher in the summer transfer window.

The report noted that Liverpool, who have already won the Carabao Cup this season, want as much as £25 million for the 25-year-old.

Defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are also keen on securing the services of Kelleher.
