Doncaster Rovers Confirm Capture Of Former Championship Attacker

Maxime Biamou, a former striker for Coventry City, has officially signed a short-term contract with Doncaster Rovers.

After many weeks of training with the team, including a run-out in a game played behind closed doors this month against Tranmere Rovers, the French attacker has joined Rovers.

The 33-year-old has spent just under two years away from football after picking up an injury issue that he sought rehabilitation for in France.

His last spell in the sport was a season for Dundee United, although injuries cut his time in Scotland short.

after the announcement, Biamou said: “It is a privilege for me to play for this good club.

It’s a big challenge for me too because I have been out for a long time but I am happy to be back playing and for this club.

“I want to help the club to be in a good shape like they are at the moment. I want to play a good part in not just staying up but climbing the league.

“My individual goal is to play as much as possible, score some goals and feel good in my fitness, my body and enjoy my football.”

Biamou’s experience in the English pyramid began in 2016 when he made the move to Sutton United from the fifth-tier French side AS Yzeure. His time in South London saw him net 13 goals in 39 appearances.

He earned a move to Coventry City at the end of the 2016/17 season where he would go on to win the League Two play-off final and see his first promotion to League One. His efforts also contributed to the Sky Blues’ third League One title and he was promoted yet again. It was across 115 appearances that the attacker scored 26 goals for the West Midlands side.

His breadth of experience is one thing admired by Doncaster manager, Grant McCann. He said: “Max has got really good experience.

“He’s been with us for more than a week and he’s looked really good in training. He looks sharp, he looks strong.

“He’s physical. He can get a hold of the ball and I think he can be a good foil for us. We can help him get fitter. He’s not 100 per cent but we feel we can get him up to speed really quickly.

“Hopefully he has a real impact for us for the remainder of the season.”

Rovers currently sit three places above the drop zone with a cushion of 12 points. A recent run of good form has seen them go unbeaten in the league in their last five matches. The addition of a new forward will hope to solidify their spot in League Two.

Biamou’s move is still subject to international clearance but the club have said he will take the number 36 shirt for his time at the club.

Author’s Perspective:

Doncaster made an intriguing signing with this one. For them, it’s not really required to sign. It does, however, help their team and gives the front line that little bit more depth, which is always beneficial. It’s possible that Biamou may gain more from this signing than the team as he attempts to recover fully from his prolonged injury layoff.

With his EFL experience, he is a fantastic player for a League Two team to face for a few months. After being away for so long, he will undoubtedly be eager to go again after having such a great time in Coventry.
