Maresca: There’s Always More to Play

Enzo Maresca felt Leicester City could have no complaints after the frustrating 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

At Hillsborough, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday finished 1-1. Jeff Hendrick’s equalizer negated Abdul Fatawu’s first-half opener. Enzo Maresca evaluated the team’s effort and the aggravation of conceding late.

– The Foxes’ next matchup is with fifth-placed West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Abdul Fatawu’s goal in the first half gave the Foxes the advantage, but Jeff Hendrick’s equalizer in stoppage time meant that the game ended in a draw on Wednesday night. It would have ended in a point apiece even though Kasey McAteer might have doubled the lead before that and Jannik Vestergaard’s even later chance might have won it.

Maresca claims that City’s first season-long draw with a team that is still at the bottom of the division is representative of the Championship.

In his post-match analysis of events, the 43-year-old said, “It’s disappointing, it’s a shame, but it is what it is.” This is how this league is. Sadly, we lost the final game and the match is never truly over.

We made some poor decisions, which allowed us to regain some degree of control over the game until we eventually gave up.

“You never know,” I believe Sheffield Wednesday drew away from Leeds. I’ve said since the beginning that it’s never easy because it’s complicated every time.

“We missed a few opportunities, but the second goal would have most likely ended the game.” The goalie made an excellent save, but occasionally a draw ends in a close call.

There is no time to reflect on the disappointing outcome in south Yorkshire as they remain at the top of the Championship and are now one point ahead of Ipswich Town in second place. Their next match is on Saturday, when they travel to West Bromwich Albion in the Midlands. The Hawthorns will kick off at 12:30 PM GMT.

The Italian said, “This is a long race.” We drew in a manner that feels like a defeat. However, as I mentioned earlier, we must have a strong mentality because we have one more game in 72 hours and we need to replenish our energy.

“We have a great opportunity to return to our winning ways, but we must first heal. The most crucial thing when you play every three days is to recover.
