“His commitment to Aston Villa is perfect,” says Unai Emery of the £25 million player who is putting in a lot of effort for the team.

After Leon Bailey signed a new deal with Aston Villa, manager Unai Emery lauded Bailey’s dedication to the team.

Speaking to the club’s media team, the Villa manager emphasized the player’s diligent efforts to increase his consistency.

Villa said earlier this month that the 26-year-old had committed to the team with a new contract.

In 87 claret-and-blue appearances since joining the Villans in the summer of 2021, Bailey has 16 goals and 15 assists.

In all competitions this season, the Jamaican international has tallied 10 goals and nine assists for Villa.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery ‘very happy’ with Leon Bailey

Emery, speaking ahead of the Villans’ Premier League trip to Fulham, spoke of how “demanding” he and his coaches are towards Bailey.

In turn, the Villa attacking talent is working hard to ensure that he can maintain consistency more often.

“We are very happy with him,” said Emery. “His process when I arrived here was progressively getting better, but sometimes we were trying to work with him on some improvements, to be consistent.

“His performances were being better at home than away and he’s working hard to try to be consistent – not only when we are with the ball and we can get him into the attacking third for one v ones and to use his speed.

“We have to be compact and defensively strong. We are trying to get the balance with him, playing being consistent. We’re very demanding with him.

“When we decided to extend the contract it’s because he deserved it and because he wanted to stay here. His commitment with Aston Villa is perfect.

“The supporters love him but we have to try to do one step ahead and increase our level. With him it’s the same: continue working, be demanding each match.”

It’s good to see Emery praise Bailey, who in turn is working hard at Villa, hence the new contract.

Bailey joined Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 for £25million, the Villans landing a player previously sought after by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

His time at Villa hasn’t always been plain sailing, but under Emery, it looks as though he’ll finally reach his massive potential.
