Man Utd need to qualify for Champions League knockout stages…..click to read more.

Manchester United’s chances of making it to the Champions League knockout stages were severely damaged on Wednesday. Erik ten Hag’s team will now require an improbable string of outcomes in two weeks in order to advance to the last-16.

Manchester United are in bottom place with a match to spare, but could still end up finishing second in the group.

Galatasaray and United drew 3-3, which perfectly encapsulated the disorganized nature of United’s European campaign this year. Despite putting on a strong offensive display and leading 2-0 and 3-1 in Istanbul, Erik ten Hag’s team ultimately lost due to a lack of defensive organization.

Bayern leads Group A after five games with 13 points. Next on the scoreboard are Copenhagen and Galatasaray, both with five points. The Danish champions are currently in second place because of their superior goal differential. United is down the table with four points.

In two weeks, what outcomes does Man Utd need?

It’s still all to play for in Group A, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stages.

In two weeks, United must defeat Bayern at Old Trafford in order to advance. Although the Bundesliga champions have already clinched first place and may rotate for the group’s last game, that seems like a daunting prospect.

United would have seven points after defeating Bayern, and in order to qualify, they also need to draw in Denmark with Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Either team can advance with eight points if they win at Parken Stadium; United cannot surpass that total.

It’s that easy: the Red Devils can only finish second if they win against United and Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw.

It’s also important to remember that United will play in the Europa League play-offs if they place third, where they will take on a team from the second-place group in Europe’s secondary competition. United’s adventures on the continent would come to an end after they finished in last place.
