Rob McElhenney compared JJ Watt’s new hairstyle, which he debuted during Super Bowl LVIII coverage, to anything from the boyband NSYNC in the 1990s.

Co-owner of Wrexham McElhenney shared an altered image of a well-known NSYNC album cover on X, showcasing Burnley co-owner Watt’s new hairstyle as if he were a member of the band. Watt had suggested that people “notice” a difference in fashion in that section, thus this was his response to that.

A lot of conversation surrounding the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, aside from the Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift, Usher, and the new Wicked movie trailer, focused on retired NFL icon Watt. The Green Bay Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari described the Clarets head coach’s “electrocuted” appearance, which he chose to debut on CBS, as being extensively scrutinized, and McElhenney carried those jokes into the next day.

Watt, who purchased a minority interest in Burnley in 2023, has admitted in the past that he has been observing how McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have handled things at Wrexham.

Both men want to succeed with their own teams. McElhenney is committed to seeing Wrexham win back-to-back promotions to begin the following season in League One, but the Red Dragons’ recent performance has suffered with four straight losses, dropping them just outside of League Two’s crucial top three. Watt’s goal at Burnley is to just stay in the Premier League when the team makes a comeback to the top division. Currently ranked 19th and seven points outside of safety, the Clarets still have some work ahead of them.
