Man City heavily criticized after agreeing €30M deal for Girona attacking sensation
|The Brazilian winger has been one of La Liga’s most attractive young attackers, but after this deal, many supporters are accusing the City Football Group of exploiting the player.
For one of the most attractive young attackers in international football, Manchester City has almost finalized a transaction. That player is Savio, a 19-year-old winger who is now on loan at Girona and has played a significant role in the team’s surprise title run.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano claims that a transaction is almost finalized and that paperwork will be finished by the end of February in preparation for a summer relocation to the Etihad Stadium.
The youthful player has contributed 14 goals to his La Liga team this season, and Girona is currently only two points behind Real Madrid, the current leaders of the Spanish top division, in the fight for the championship. Those who have closely studied the Catalan side talk highly of the Brazilian’s efforts this season, but statistics are only one part of the game.
The Premier League’s biggest teams would benefit further from Savio’s versatility since he can play on both wings. With the recent departures of Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, and Raheem Sterling, they are now short on wingers. But this move has drawn a lot of criticism for both Guardiola’s team and the Abu Dhabi-owned team.
The owners of Manchester City have created a multi-team structure known as City Football Group, which includes the crown jewel, Manchester City, Troyes, the Brazilian’s parent club, and Girona, where Savio is currently on loan. Because of this, a lot of people charge that the owners of Manchester City are feeding the Cityzens with the inferior teams in the City Football Group.
Savio, for instance, is Troyes’ record signing, yet he was immediately loaned to Girona and hasn’t appeared in a single game for them. He will now depart Girona for Guardiola’s team this summer, even though Troyes is currently fighting for their Ligue 2 spot.
