Aston Villa loss ‘spells the end’ of Eric Dier at Tottenham – Expert

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose is a welcome addition to Tottenham News’ exclusive columnist lineup. He will provide his professional analysis on the most talked-about topics at Spurs every week.

Despite Eric Dier’s lack of playing time, John Wenham feels that Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa “spells the end” for Dier’s career.

On Sunday, November 26, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ange Postecoglou decided against starting Dier in favor of full-backs Emerson Royal and Ben Davies to play in the center of his defense.

Giovani Lo Celso had given Spurs a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but in the end, Pau Torres and Ollie Watkins goals handed Unai the Villans overtook their rivals for fourth place with the three points.

Wenham thinks Dier would have made a significant decision regarding his future after the afternoon, which served as a message about his status in north London.

Wenham, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, stated: “Dier’s tenure at Tottenham is likely coming to an end following that loss against Aston Villa.”

“I think that really spells the end for him, because he was the only available, healthy natural center-back at the club, and he wasn’t included against Aston Villa.”

He should have enough self-respect and ambition to realize that, and I predict that he will start pushing for a move in January.

“I am aware of reports stating he will remain until the end of the season, but I believe Tottenham will likely accept a low-ball offer for him and he will depart in January.”

In other Tottenham news, Wenham lost it when Postecoglou made a “criminal” error during the team’s loss to Aston Villa.
