JUST IN: Coventry City sign winger ripping it up in League One in complicated deadline day deal

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues have been busy with a bit of late deadline day business

Ephron Mason-Clark, an exciting forward, was signed by Coventry City for an undisclosed amount that the Posh believe is’substantial’. However, supporters won’t get to watch him play until the following season.

After pursuing the 24-year-old for several weeks, the Sky Blues were able to finally land their man on deadline day. The player is primarily a left winger but can also play on the right or as a striker. CoventryLive does, however, understand that in order to complete the transaction, City was compelled to consent to loan the player back to the selling team for the remainder of the campaign.

After 36 games this season, Mason-Clark has already racked up an amazing 15 goals (ten in the league to propel the Posh to third place in the standings) and eight assists across all competitions. Following his morning’s deal approval, the Lambeth-born footballer went to Coventry for his medical and ultimately signed a four-and-a-half year contract that would take him through the summer of 2028.

However, it’s said that Posh moved the goalposts during the day, demanding that Coventry agree to send the player back to London Road for the duration of the season. City grudgingly accepted this demand.

“We are delighted to agree the transfer of Ephron to Coventry City,” manager Mark Robins stated. Playing off the left, he is a quick and energetic forward with a positive mentality both on and off the field.

Though we’ll have to wait until the summer to see him in a Sky Blue shirt, we’re incredibly excited to have Ephron join the Club, and we know that our fans will be too. This will be the last transaction we make during this time.

Mason-Clark declared: “I’m happy to have closed the sale. I sincerely thank all of the people that worked behind the scenes to make this happen.

“The squad and I are performing well at the Peterborough. I’m eager to see what the remaining games of the season have in store as well as to begin my career as a Coventry City player.

“Being a Sky Blue is going to be an honor. I would want to express my gratitude to my family for supporting me and to the Coventry staff for their endless efforts in solving this problem. I also want to give thanks to God for guiding me on this path.”

Mason-Clark must remain on loan until the end of the season in order for Peterborough to consider a permanent deal, the club stated in a news release. “I am very thankful to Coventry City owner Doug King, who I have dealt with directly, on getting this done,” Chairman Darragh MacAnthony stated.

Peterborough United winger Ephron Mason-Clark has been targeted by Coventry City

“My only way to approve this transfer was to have Ephron back on loan. For the player, financially speaking, it’s a great move that he deserves. I can’t wait to watch him terrorize opponents for the remainder of the season while he plays for us.

Mason-Clark, a star player for Peterborough, is a quick, strong, and dynamic winger who began his career at Barnet. He made his League Two debut there in 2016 and later joined the Bees in the National League, where he played for 187 games and scored 22 goals. In the summer of 2022, he signed a three-year contract with United for an undisclosed fee.

In his first season at London Road, he scored twelve goals. He helped the team qualify for the League One play-offs, where they lost 5-1 at Hillsborough to Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals, despite leading 4-0 going into the second leg.

It’s acknowledged that City had to work hard to acquire Mason-Clark, as Posh has remained steadfast up to this point. Just last week, football director Barry Fry stated, “The chairman has been brilliant, so fair play to him.” He has rejected every offer that we have received for a number of players.

“They would have been worth millions to the club, but we want to keep this squad together because we think this season will be our best chance to win League One.”
