As he thought back on leaving their Cheshire home and having to spend time apart from his three children with Kilner—who is currently expecting their fourth—Walker was on the verge of tears.

The England international mentioned that he considered fleeing the nation in order to avoid the scandal and that his ideal destination would be Germany. He was clear, though, that he had never really intended to leave City.

Walker stated, “I tried to escape,” in an interview with The Sun.

“Did I want to leave City? No, of course I didn’t. We’re the best team in the world right now. Therefore, he felt a move to Germany would be best – especially as it would see him link-up with his England team-mate, Kane, who joined the German giants from Tottenham in a £100m deal during the summer transfer window.

The England captain made the decision to leave because he has never taken home a big prize in his career, despite coming close with Tottenham and on the international front.
