‘Riles me’ – Sky Sports Kris Boyd hits out at ‘Myth’ surrounding Rangers

Kris Boyd maintains that Rangers, the Old Firm rivals, are still the most successful club in Scotland, and that it is a “myth” that Celtic has been the dominant team in the nation.

The former player for Rangers was reacting to Neil Lennon’s suggestion that Rangers lack the attitude to catch Celtic this season in his column for The Scottish Sun on January 26.

Rangers trail Celtic by five points with a game in hand, while the sides next meet again at Ibrox in April.

Boyd remarked, “This idea is another thing that riles me.” In Scottish football, Celtic has dominated for as long as anybody can remember.

Kris Boyd claims 'something isn't right' at Celtic and 'things could spiral'

“That is a fabrication. Rangers were the best team in Scotland before they were forced to play in a lower division.

And they continue to be the most successful team in Scottish football, based on my estimates.

The story that has been developed, according to which Celtic has been the most successful team, is only accurate as of 2012.

Like Celtics supporters don’t think football existed before that time. Unless it’s 1967. However, when it suits them, they appear to forget what they enjoy.

Nicely expressed

Boyd is merely expressing what every Rangers fan believes: Celtic supporters are obviously poor on memory.

The Light Blues had 118 trophies as of December, when they defeated Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup final at Hampden.

55 league titles, 34 Scottish Cups, 28 League Cups, and one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup make up that total.

In contrast, Celtic has won 116 trophies, including 53 Scottish Premiership crowns.

In terms of pure history, there can be no complaints: Rangers have been the most successful club across both sides’ entire existence.

Although they have won more league titles recently, they still have a few more to win before they are tied overall.

And not very long ago, they believed they had already won the championship this year, only for Rangers to dramatically cut the distance.

The Gers will have even less of a footing in this dispute if they surpass Celtic before the season ends.

In other Rangers news, a transfer call made by Alex McLeish has rendered him appear foolish.
