Leicester City to sign Callum O’Hare as Coventry City uncertainty continues

Leicester, a competitor of Coventry City, has been connected to Callum O’Hare as a possible player. Foxes boss Enzo Maresca allegedly has “options” to bolster his team during the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The owners of the team had previously stated that players would need to vacate King Power Stadium before any could be brought in this month. However, with Chelsea’s return of midfielder Cesare Casadei, there is now conjecture that the Championship’s top team may look to find a replacement quickly.

Longtime Foxes reporter for The Athletic Rob Tanner writes: “Leicester has options, including Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare, who played well and scored twice in the most recent derby against Leicester, and Inter Milan’s Stefano Sensi, who has reportedly been given the go-ahead to make the move if Leicester wish to do the deal.

Sensi would cost more than the other, but in the summer, both will be unrestricted free agents. Is it better for Leicester to wait until the conclusion of the season, when they may be a more alluring offer if they return to the Premier League and have more possibilities themselves, or do they currently believe that their need is more urgent?

With just over a week remaining in the current transfer window, Sky Blues owner Doug King was asked by BBC CWR if he is certain O’Hare will stay. His response, “We’ll see how it plays,” sparked some uneasy conversation among supporters.

Some saw that as a sign that the team wants to take advantage of the player and make as much money as possible now rather than take a chance on his departing in the summer for nothing. But at a time when the team is primed to strive for another play-off campaign and promotion possibility, that would seriously damage Mark Robins’ team, so it’s reasonable to believe the manager would be against any such sale.

It’s unlikely that the owner will sell unless the team has a replacement in mind during a famously tough window of opportunity. King is also extremely ambitious and wants promotion. Nevertheless, even if the Dane is inexperienced at this level, new addition Victor Torp can fill a variety of midfield roles, including O’Hare’s number 10 position.

O’Hare, on the other hand, will have a significant say in any possible transfer. CoventryLive believes that the player is eager to stay until the end of the season at the very least in order to support City’s promotion quest, even if he has not yet signed a new deal. On the other hand, a transfer to Leicester would provide the player with an easy path to the Premier League.
