Newcastle reject £13m Bayern Munich offer for full-back Kieran Trippier

Bayern Munich have had a 15million euros offer to Chelsea rejected for the services of full-back Kieran Trippier.

The Bundesliga giants turned down a loan offer for the England international over the weekend, but the player made a comeback with a cash offer worth about £13 million for the 33-year-old. The PA news agency has learned that the Magpies do not plan to sell Trippier, who cost £12 million to join from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, during this transfer window. They have also turned down a loan offer from Atletico for Callum Wilson, a striker, and have indicated that they intend to keep him at St James’ Park for the rest of the season.

The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, which owns an 80% stake in Newcastle, does not control any of the four clubs that Al-Shabab is pursuing, including Paraguayan striker Miguel Almiron. However, Al-Shabab has not yet advanced to the point where Almiron’s current employers would even be inclined to consider a deal.

It seems that suitors are testing the waters this month because they know the Tyneside club is nearing its spending limit following a recruitment campaign that cost over £400 million over two years.

Darren Eales, the club’s chief executive, has acknowledged that player trading is something the team will need to do in the long run, but with injuries still wearing down head coach Eddie Howe’s team, there isn’t much desire to start doing it right now.

With other goals in mind, Bayern must now decide whether to pursue Trippier before the deadline of February 1st, knowing that a bid well in excess of their valuation may be necessary to force a reevaluation.
