Exclusive: After initial discussions, the West Ham £50 million offer failed

Football Insider has received information from sources that West Ham cannot afford to pursue Chelsea striker Armando Broja during the January transfer window.

Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke stated in an interview with the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast that the Blues would demand at least £50 million for the 22-year-old, which is significantly more than the Hammers can afford for the winter.

Exclusive: West Ham deal collapses after preliminary talks

It is believed that West Ham have prioritised a striker this month, but a winter move for the Albania international is off the cards after preliminary discussions.

The Hammers have long been interested in Broja, and they might show it again in the summer.

Given their extensive summer hiring, the Hammers, like many other Premier League teams, are not anticipated to make large purchases in January.

In 17 appearances across all competitions this season, Mauricio Pochettino’s team has only had two goals and one assist from him.

He did, however, make an impression during a very productive loan spell with Southampton in 2021–2022, scoring nine goals. Unfortunately, a cruciate ligament tear ended his season last year.

Given Michael Antonio’s injuries and Danny Ings’ unclear future, David Moyes’ team is keen to add players in this area.

Additionally, they have a lot of wingers available for transfer, with clubs able to sign both Said Benrahma and Maxwel Cornet.

Football Insider (19 January) said that Irons executives are leading an attempt to sign versatile Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn this month, but David Moyes, the manager, is not enthusiastic.

A deal for Leeds United star Willy Gnonto is also being considered, as Football Insider reported on January 20 that they are now the favorites to bring him back to the Premier League this month.

After Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, West Ham is still sixth in the Premier League standings. (21 January).

On Thursday, February 1st, they will play Bournemouth in the league.
