What Abdul Fatawu said to Jamie Vardy at that precise moment encapsulates the camaraderie of Leicester City

The Ghanaian winger may be the youngest player in the squad, but it doesn’t mean he can’t help out his team-mates, with the teenager picking Vardy up at the weekend

Despite being the youngest member of Leicester City’s team, Abdul Fatawu is able to impart wisdom to his teammates.

The 19-year-old winger was the first player to substitute for Jamie Vardy after the latter blew his second-big chance in the victory over Watford, volleying over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box.

Frustrated, he collapsed to the ground, but Fatawu was there to help him up and offer some support. After taking a punch to his own face, Vardy scored the first of his two goals shortly after, giving City the victory.

“Any time you miss a chance, it sometimes brings you down,” Fatawu stated. “However, as a team, all you have to do is encourage your teammate and get them back if they do this.

“Anything can happen in football. I wasn’t concerned about his wasted opportunities because I knew he would score, as he always does.

“Jamie is a seasoned player, but occasionally a small gesture can go a long way. I told him that I knew he would score and that I believed in him.

“I went to him because, in situations like that, all you need is someone to talk to in order to regain your energy. I went to him after I was overjoyed and told him, “I knew you were going to score, I’m not surprised.”

Fatawu made a unique contribution to the game. Following his introduction ten minutes into the second half alongside Vardy, the Ghanaian gave City even more attacking potential as they applied pressure to Watford’s full-back.

The City players gave Fatawu the ball whenever they could because they knew he would make the difference. According to the teenager, he still has more to offer.

“We had to win this game,” he continued. “We were thinking going into the game that we might have to adjust a few things. It all comes down to the manager’s bravery and the way he organizes the team. I’m improving personally, and I’m sure there’s more to come.”
