Carlos Edwards reveals “special” Wrexham return
|Former Wrexham winger Carlos Edwards has disclosed that he received an invitation to the team’s opening match of the current season, a 5-3 loss to MK Dons.
Throughout his lengthy and largely prosperous football career, the 45-year-old played for teams including Wrexham, Luton Town, Sunderland, Wolves, and Ipswich Town.
Edwards came to the Red Dragons from Defence Force, a Trinidad and Tobagoan team, in 2000, making them his first English club.
For the Welsh team, Edwards participated in 128 games and finished with 16 goals and 5 assists.
When Edwards joined Wrexham, the team was relegated to the EFL; nevertheless, in his last season, Wrexham was promoted to League One.
However, nearly 20 years on, Wrexham are now back in the Football League and have taken to life very well as they bid to earn back-to-back promotions.
Carlos Edwards: Wrexham return was special
When Wrexham returned to the Football League, they hosted MK Dons and lost 5-3 in an exciting match. This wasn’t the ideal start for the club.
Carlos Edwards, a former player for Wrexham, has now disclosed that he received an invitation to the Racecourse Ground for that match—the first time he had returned in ten years.
“I was invited for the first game of this season,” Edwards stated. I got up, and they lost 5-3, so it wasn’t the greatest game of games. They lost to MK Dons, I believe, 5-3, if you enjoy goals.
It was my first visit back in more than a decade. It’s a bit of a hike and difficult to find the time to go because of the time, with the kids and the wife, doing what I do, and not having the time to travel all that way. I’m still based in Ipswich.
Looking back, it was clear that it was unique. I caught up with my admirers because, even though I haven’t seen them in a while, they still love me and I have happy memories and pals up there.
“It was special because I brought the family over; they had never seen Wrexham before.
“You’re looking at the club right now, and the buzz is really strong again. They’re doing well in the league and playing some excellent football; may this continue since they endured too much suffering.”
Wrexham AFC’s league position
Although Wrexham earned their spot in League Two after dominating the National League the previous season, many were concerned about how they would fare in the Football League.
The Red Dragons appear to be as at ease in the league as they were in the fifth tier of England, thus they have adapted to it with ease.
After 25 games, Wrexham looks very much like a team that may easily secure another automatic promotion, despite a rollercoaster start to the season.
