West Ham now considering swoop for £30m striker, move could depend on one thing – report
|According to The Times, West Ham has their sights set on the prolific striker Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord.
On Thursday, January 11, Paul Joyce provided an update on the publication’s online platform, stating that the Mexican is reportedly worth £30 million.
If that valuation does not put United off, it is suggested that there could be one big obstacle standing in United’s way.
Feyenoord is rumored to prefer to wait until the summer rather than sell any players during the January transfer window.
Good recent record
Gimenez, who has scored 20 goals in 21 games this season, is reportedly being watched by several other European teams.
Even before all these recent layoffs, West Ham was probably keeping an eye out for a striker who could score more than 15 goals in a season.
Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta are sidelined through injury, while Mohammed Kudus is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.
The only recognized starting striker under David Moyes’s management is Danny Ings, and he is hardly a long-term solution.
Gimenez is among the players who have previously been connected to a move to London Stadium, and that is quite understandable.
Gimenez looks like a great fit, especially considering how often he scores goals. Just have a look at Kudus for all the hype about that being in the Dutch league.
Tim Steidten has an easy formula to follow because Kudus and fellow summer recruit Edson Alvarez have both been outstanding.
It’s debatable whether West Ham has the £30 million to spend right now, but the interest is still a positive development.
In unrelated West Ham news, a statement on the team’s website indicates that the Irons have decided on a young player.
