The Welcome to Wrexham crew had a fantastic night at the Emmys, and Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney expressed their gratitude to the community for making it possible.

The Welsh town received a special thank you from Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who were honored by the four Emmy Awards that the blockbuster documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham” won on Sunday night.

The show took home a lot of Emmys including picture editing, direction, cinematography, and best unstructured reality series. After debuting in August 2022, the show is currently in its second season. Millions of new fans have fallen in love with the series and are now supporting the football team, putting the squad on the map.

After acquiring the team in 2020, Reynolds and McElhenney brought Wrexham back into the Football League following fifteen years in the fifth division. The owners praised the community for allowing them to share their tale, and the second season of the docuseries depicts their dramatic ascent to League Two.

“Thank you to the town of Wrexham and @Wrexham_AFC for allowing us to witness your story and tell it,” Reynolds posted to X. “I’ve never had a greater honor than this one. “Thank you @FXNetworks, @hulu, and @DisneyPlus, and thank you, #EmmyAwards, for the honor.”

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ won an Emmy, so Reynolds and McElhenney submitted a video to deliver even though they were unable to attend the ceremony. After that, McElhenney shared the video again on social media. “What an amazing honor, an Emmy,” exclaimed McElhenney.

“There are so many people to thank, I have been waiting for this moment for 16 years, so I’ve got a lot to say.” But Reynolds’s superhero character Deadpool interrupted him. Reynolds continued, “Mr. Lively couldn’t be here to accept this broken Emmy, so he sent me on his behalf,” while reprising his role as Deadpool.

Reynolds and McElhenney have won many awards since buying Wrexham, including the National League title

“We adore you, Wrexham, above all else. I am grateful that you allowed Rob and the other guy to share your tale. B******, Cymru am byth. I express my gratitude to The Academy for this honor as well as for not requesting that we join the actual celebrities at the broadcast awards ceremony. In addition, Mr. Lively pledges not to screw up my future film in return for my gratitude to Disney and FX for their assistance.”

Reynolds and McElhenney are regular visitors from the United States to Wrexham, where they have fallen in love. Additionally, they have been quite active in the community; they even purchased a park from the town with the intention of renovating it and setting up eateries and bars there.

The Hollywood celebrities have a long-term commitment to Wrexham and hope to one day lead them into the Premier League. They are currently third in League Two, thus they are well on their way to securing back-to-back promotions. They also progressed to the FA Cup’s fourth round on Sunday after defeating Shrewsbury 1-0 away.
