Coventry City favourite addresses transfer window interest and Premier League ambitions

Coventry City news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues favourite Milan van Ewijk discusses reported transfer interest from his native Netherlands

Milan van Ewijk admits he’s flattered by recent transfer interest but insists he’s fully “focused” on Coventry City and helping the club achieve its Premier League ambitions.

The 23-year-old Sky Blues star was linked with interest from PSV Eindhoven in the final days of the summer transfer, according to reports by De Telegraaf, having been reported by ESPN earlier in the final month of the window.

Asked about the speculation and whether he was aware of the reported interest, Van Ewijk said: “No I was not aware of that, I keep doing my own thing. These things can become a distraction but, for me, I just keep focusing on the games that I want to play.”

Put to him that the fact that he has been linked with the likes of PSV must be flattering to know that he is obviously doing the right things and that his career is progressing nicely, he said: “Oh, yeah, yeah. It’s nice to know that teams like that are watching me play and analysing me and things like that, but as I say, I’m just keeping my focus on Coventry and the games that I play because, for me, there’s no need to think about any transfer or anything. I will hear from my agents or the people higher up (if anything happens). So I am not really bothered by it.”

The popular right-back certainly appears really invested in Coventry City, a club with clear ambitions to get to the Premier League

“Yeah, I think Coventry and the fans and everybody share the same vision to go to the Prem this season,” he said, “and I think it’s a big dream of any player in the team as well, to play in the Premier League. And we just all hope that we all get there in the end, either by promotion directly or via the play-offs. But I think everyone shares the same ambition.”

It’s the international break and the player has returned home for a few days to see his friends and family rather than go on duty with his country. Asked about his international ambitions with the Netherlands, he said: “I played for the Under-21s two years ago. I am 23 now so I can’t play with them any more. But there are some big players in my position, Denzel Dumfries and Jeremie Frimpong obviously, and those are obviously quality players who are playing in higher leagues than Coventry so it will be difficult for me.

“But obviously, it takes time to go there and maybe to go to a higher team or playing in the Premier League with Coventry would be maybe an eye-opener for the coach. But I will just keep doing what I do and time will tell.”
